Our vision is a flexible, cost-effective and environmentally friendly microwave-based solution for large-scale drying that promotes a globally accelerated transition to fossil-free wood production.
Microwave Technology in Wood Drying: How It Works
In this article, we will explore how our microwave technology works and the benefits it brings to the wood-drying process.
Step 1: Preparation of Logs
First, we debark logs are debarked and sawn to selected dimensions. We transport the boards directly to the microwave dryer, optimizing the process where time-consuming steps such as storage and stacking are removed.
Step 2: Unique Drying System
MicroDri‘s unique system combines wood technology with cutting-edge expertise from SAAB and leaders in microwave technology. Unlike hot air drying, which dries lumber in batches, our technology dries each board individually on a conveyor belt. As a result, we ensure high production rates. Moreover, sensors measure the unique properties of each board and communicate with the dryer’s control system. This adaptation allows for precise adjustments to the drying process based on each board’s characteristics.
Step 3: Environmental Benefits
The use of microwave technology digitizes and electrifies the drying process. Consequently, it provides an environmentally friendly solution for large-scale drying. This innovation promotes a rapid transition to emission-free wood production. Ultimately, MicroDri’s technology offers an efficient method to dry lumber, delivering high quality while minimizing energy consumption and reducing the carbon footprint.
Step 4: Final Processing
Once the boards reach the target moisture ratio, we stack them and send them for post-processing. Afterward, they are packaged and delivered to the end customer.
Benefits of Using Microwaves in Wood Drying
Tailored in-line systems. Systems that fit customers’ needs, enabling production processes that are interconnected, from start to finish, from saw to packaging.
Faster drying & shorter lead times. The flexible and highly efficient microwave technology enables a fast drying process
Optimized drying for each board. The drying process is adapted for each individual board’s unique characteristics. The method can distribute the heat evenly which gives better results.
An electrified drying process. An environmentally friendly solution that enables fossil-free lumber production.
